think, investigate

the cleansing power of Christ

April 23, 2003

i meant to write this a few sundays ago, but never had the chance. it's been a LONG time since i've last written, school's been keeping me really busy, but i'm glad to say that i'm finally done! at least for two weeks anyways. :)

i got my car washed at a sunoco touchless car wash at mccowan and 14th ave. if you've never had your car washed by a touchless car wash, check it out sometime! it's quite an experience. since it's touchless, it's a pretty full on, all out car wash. i mean think about it, you have to get off ALL the scum and dirt of the car by just water and soap. that means there's gotta be some crazy amounts of power blasting your car to get off all the impurities. while your car goes through the wash, you can really feel the power of the jets. it's amazing! and at the end, to dry off your car, they've got this super powered drying machine. it's so strong, the windshield wipers actually start moving up off your car. you think like it's going to fly off the car because of the suction.

this imagery reminded me of the cleansing power of Christ. whenever we come to the cross of Christ because of the filthy stench of our sin, we ask for forgiveness, cleansing and redemption. and after we do this, how do we feel? sometimes we might dwell on the past sin and kick ourselves for falling into temption, or acting ungodly. we beat ourselves about it and linger on it. why do we do this? maybe it's because we feel like we are unworthy to come back to God or maybe we feel as if we've disappointed God because of our actions. but don't you think God would MUCH rather us admit our brokenness, our inadequacy and ask for His help than for us to simply dwell on it and beat ourselves up for it? the truth of the matter, is that we have been forgiven for our sins, past, present and future. and the truth is that the cleansing power of Christ, is much more powerful than any touchless car wash, or any power on earth. and if we fully understand this, then when we sin, and we ask God for forgiveness, we won't dwell on it anymore. because in Christ, we are free :) in Christ, we realize that we are fully and COMPLETELY forgiven!

"so if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." (john 8:36)
